When the world is falling apart…

Because the political hyperbole has seeped into daily lives and, of course, businesses, I was again reminded of what my mentor in advertising always drummed into us young creatives: Read the newspapers and understand what mood the world is in and how and where the product you’re marketing fits in.

Of course, it’s a very different world today with the primary source of information and misinformation coming from the online world, which, to be perfectly honest, is something like a cross between “Coronation Street”, any reality show, “Fawlty Towers” and the contents section of anything on Facebook or the free-for-all that’s the Musky nesting place known as X.

Maybe this is why so many play-act at being “advertising and marketing” executives when they are actually clueless about their roles as are Human Resources or whoever approved their hires very possibly by skimming through what’s mainly that meeting place for the great unemployed known as LinkedIn.
Let’s just also face the fact that “leadership” is not exactly bristling with visionary talent these days.
It’s more often than not, a dodgy dog and pony show lacking credibility and led by Corporate bollocks and hypocrisy.

No one believes in anyone or anything these days because we’re drowning in the same shallow end of the pool, but when ruled by fear, we become Klingons and slaves to the masters.

Some of us might think we have kernels of ideas, but where do they fit into something or anything and where are those who might help take it forward?
Aren’t we usually surrounded by inexperienced players in a shell game who are bluffing their way through life?
Sure, some are making obscene amounts of money for what they supposedly bring to the table, but when they own the table, it’s all about survival and shining and kissing the right shoes.

Can something like music make this a better world?
Maybe it can help, but in this free streaming Spotify world, there’s a need for another round of Beatlemania before this happens.
What else? Money and then making more and more money? And then?

Apart from a comfortable lifestyle, let’s just remember that you can’t take monetary wealth with you, and, as we are seeing all around the world, Power Corrupts and the peasants are mighty pissed off.
Remember Marie Antoinette.

With an online world to contend with, we’re pretty much like “Pigs In Space”, floating through life on a wing and a prayer and plenty of fibs- often to ourselves.
We’re in Survival Mode and playing for time and hoping no one notices until the balloon of hyperbole is pricked and the truth comes out like Jumping Jack Gas.

Taylor is getting
rather Lively
And CNN is hawking
a book on Sleepy Joe
Bad timing and are
all bets off?
Politics have become
extremely showbiz

If X marks the spot
I don’t want to be in it
Drowning in the clutter
of anger and hate
Just never cut it

Whatever happened to
Flower Power?
Did it all go to pot?
Did it become
some Purple Haze?
That wasn’t saying much

Greed feeds on greed
And I see it pretty much
everywhere I go
The fat cats are getting fatter
And slime always
moves so slow
Fear might buy loyalty
but hypocrisy doesn’t
buy trust
Careful when you
turn your back
You just might have
run outta luck

I think about what
the children will inherit
When we’re no longer here
But while we’re caught up
in the Here and Now
What are we doing
to make those
clouds disappear?
I will always
love Jim Henson
The Muppets and
Spielberg’s E.T.

They lit up my heart light
And stirred my imagination
Who among us
didn’t want an encounter
of a third kind?
And to just fly away
without doubts or hesitation?

We’re stumbling now
And fear the unknown
We’ve got our
priorities back to front
And often feel all alone
“God Only Knows” is
playing in my head
I might not have
always loved you
But you know
I did my best
We’re not Woke
We’re just asleep
To everything toxic
in the world
George’s guitar
weeps so gently
And we’re on a
long and winding road

The Blobby Orange is
beyond redemption
Not that he even cares
He’s only about making
Artful Dodger deals
until the cupboard is bare

There are black sheep
in the family
Everyone has
a hand to play
It comes down
to the cards you draw
King trumps Queen
But maybe not always
It appears that the world
is still looking for Hope
It’s something money
cannot buy
And pinned against the ropes
The Great Divide has
become a black hole
It needs help
And it’s called Hope

That online world is
winning the war
It’s got so many hooked
And they can’t withdraw
They’re so deep into
the TikTok clutter
They’re even
breaking the law
I’m just doing
the very best I can
I don’t listen
And don’t do the dance
I don’t follow anything
Except for what’s in my heart
No time for fools and horses
And those
peddling false starts
It’s time to
make some changes
And rise above it all
Pick myself up
If I might fall
Time to get
lost in the music
And hear sweet harmonies
All the talking
is coming up empty
Along with the sounds of
well rehearsed Hypocrisy
