Half Yours and Jamie Melham say Yup to the Cup!

When the stars align, magic happens and which is what happened after, and maybe even before, the running of the Melbourne Cup at Flemington.


This was when Half Yours, trained to perfection by Tony and Calvin McEvoy, and so confidently cuddled and ridden by Jamie Melham said Yup to the Cup and took out The Race That Stops A Nation.

After exactly a decade since Michelle Payne became the first female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup, Jamie Melham became the first female rider to complete the Caulfield-Melbourne Cup double.


The clouds disappeared and the sun shone down on Flemington.


There are so many backstories to everything that led up to this win, with possibly the first of these being a promising young rider named Jamie Kah starting to make her mark riding in Adelaide for one of the really good guys in racing in Tony McEvoy.


Fast forward to the first Tuesday in November and Half Yours, who had this year’s Caulfield Cup winner- the former Jamie Kah now going by her married name- completing the Cup double as Jamie Melham.

The lady has gone through injuries, a suspension and those who felt she was out of form whereas others believed Half Yours couldn’t see out the distance of the Melbourne Cup.


The lesson to be learned here is about karma, and how when the stars align, good things happen.


Many good things happened to make this a very memorable Melbourne Cup day and which will be talked about and inspire all those young girls dreaming of winning this very special Cup.
