SCORING GOALS, PETE GOES GLOBAL…

Whatever anyone might think of him, it’s darn difficult to ignore Peter V’Landys, especially because he appears to be travelling under the radar and as they say in Media Speak, is expanding his reach.
There are those well into the Australian sporting arena who no longer see him as the “racing supremo” of Racing New South Wales. Yes, he’s still guiding the Everest juggernaut, but he’s also somewhat like the Scarlet Pimpernel.
Was he actually on course for this year’s big day out or was he hosting his own Everest party outside of the racecourse?
Meanwhile, apart from succeeding in selling the NRL to the US and the broadcasting Rights, our mate Pete is now focused on taking the NRL GLOBAL and having different teams playing in different cities, amongst them being London, Paris and Dublin with the possibility of the Middle East.
Could there perhaps be a tie-in with the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Rugby Sevens?
Why not?
Where does this put his interests in horse racing other than Everest Day?
Time will tell.

CHILLING AND RESORT RACING IN SRI LANKA?

“Mate, no one who goes horse racing in Newra Elya are coming for the quality of the equine and riding talent. They’re there for having fun in the most beautiful island in the world!

“We were in Sri Lanka before the Spring Carnival in Australia and loved everything the island offers- the beaches, corral islands, the fabulous cuisine, the golf courses, the hotels, the City of Dreams casino, resorts, guest houses, restaurants and lots more.

“I hear someone you know very well might be retiring in Sri Lanka and will be running the racing as part of what’s being called ‘Resort Racing’”.

LET THE BLAME GAMES BEGIN…

Though really really really trying to understand the concept behind this group called Now United, what they’re doing in Hong Kong and how they became part of HKJC Entertainment, photos like those below don’t exactly help their image and BEGS the question, Who is in charge of this car crash and who’s approving the bizarre serving of goulash???

From being launched in 2019 and with the latest incarnation of the still unknown group in Hong Kong looking like wholesome young girls in gym uniforms, they’re suddenly looking like vamping dominatrixes striking some rather odd poses- headaches, stomach cramps…
Couldn’t the girls and the one odd boy out in the group not be seen with the international roster of jockeys in Hong Kong from Australia, Italy, France, Mauritius, Britain, South Africa and home grown talent?
Couldn’t they have recorded even one song familiar to local audiences and with someone like The King Of Canto Pop- Jacky Cheung- and brought out their poppy originals later? Or never?
When the visionary that is Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, the Hong Kong Jockey Club CEO and Simon Fuller, the head of X1X Entertainment, had their little kumbaya moment in Hong Kong in around June of this year, soooooooo much was discussed and sooooooooo much more promised to help restore Asia’s one-time world city to new and relevant and exciting days overflowing with good vibrations.
And? Not much good vibrations.

Perhaps, these two business titans should have actually had a strategic plan in place?
Having “lots of ideas” means nothing without a strong delivery system and the fundamentals of of an idea and understanding marketing in 2025- and beyond.
Those who know the backstory about how the two sides even came together, and why things quickly came undone, is an interesting lesson in human behaviour, oodles of hypocrisy, career survival and the constant use of deflection.
Perhaps the two sultans of schwing should have a quiet widdle think about where things went wrong, why friendships were detonated, how karma is a chameleon and who ended up backing the wrong horse?
Muldaur? Scully?
