AND DIVIDED WE FALL AND GO OUR SEPARATE WAYS

ree

When at DDB, there were certain advertising principles we strived to adhere to- Break The Pattern, Appeal To Heart And Head, Speak With One Voice and Generate Trust.

This was our tick list of what every piece of communication through the advertising we created for our clients had to have according to the beliefs of the agency’s Chairman Keith Reinhard, my mentor, creative guru, and without having to say so, my life coach.

I might have done a few things very wrong when it came to hurting the person whom I loved the most, but the fact that I think about her every minute of every day, and as Cher sang, If I Could Turn Back Time, I would.

She will always remain the love of my life, and the person I married for all the right reasons, but then went and broke vows taken.

Generate Trust, and its importance, came up yesterday with something to do with friendship and business and I immediately thought of her.

I was very let down by a couple of people I trusted- and it made me think about life.

In a world where we are seemingly always dealing with the games people play, being pretty much cheated is something that’s hard to stomach.

We suddenly see people for who they really are and usually swimming against the tide at the shallow end of the pool.

It’s a very strange feeling when being lied to or tried to be played for a fool, and yet going with it despite knowing that it’s coming from an insincere place- and full of bad vibes.

How does one handle this type of situation?

Anger is not worth the emotional turmoil.

Revenge is sweet, but bitter, or you could chalk it up to a life lesson and heard in thousands of songs.

One song stands out for me: “Positively Fourth Street” by Bob Dylan.

Instead of overthinking things, it came down to therapeutic writing and listening to Dylan’s voice and words, especially the lines “You’ve got a lotta nerve to say you are my friend” and with the song ending with “if for just one time you could stand inside my shoes/You’d know what a drag it is to see you”.

Enough said.
