BIRDIE NUM NUMS

SIMON COWELL AND THE CLAP.

It’s quite something when a thread of Simon Cowell clapping in a very weird and limp bizkit kinda way goes viral, whereas after almost seven years of being together, his biggie competitor Simon Fuller’s Now United remain unknown.

One other thing: Please don’t blame us for the awful AI induced voice over in the Cowell clip.

NO LONGER THE DEAD HOUR, BUT REAL TIME ENTERTAINMENT AND HORSE RACING?

More than interesting is that a group of young entrepreneurs outside of Oz with quite a few global sponsors on their side are said to be looking at taking over the dead air time at one of those online racing and sports radio stations- and turning this startup and starting point into something much more cool and entertaining and led by music.

About time. And smart, and looking at what’s not working with plans to marry horse racing with horse racing, here’s something out of left field and where a new team can very quickly make something new out of almost nothing- and because of different time zones become quite the game changer.

Gawd forbid that the Birdie Num Nums becomes a horse racing column, but unlike something or another called- we think- The Aussie Battlers Army screaming about having tipped long priced winners, there’s a group OUTSIDE of the land of Oz who are backing horses winning in places in the land Down Under like Narromine, the Sunshine Coast, Grafton, Gatton etc and doing rather well for themselves.

With some wily ways not to get barred by bookmakers for winning too much, their modus operandi is to follow those riders who travel under the radar and have the talent and stable support to consistently ride winners at FIXED odds around 3 to 1. None of this whirlpool rubbish for them.

IF they get barred, they can always switch to the whirlpool where your 15 to 1 pop can end up paying 5 to one.

Most popular jockeys for them?

Pierre Boudvillain, below, Emily Lang, Angela Jones, Jeff Penza and Chad Lever- both still riding winners- the forever young Michael Rodd, and from Western Australia, Lucy Fiore, Tash Faithful and Zephen Johnston-Porter.

As they say, money is money wherever one might find it, so why listen to the usual tipping panels for the usual Saturday metropolitan meetings starting from Thursday and screwing with your head and banging on and on and on to win something like a percentage of a $48 Quaddie…and at a loss on monies invested?

Meanwhile, those in Hong Kong who have heard of the multi cultural group only because of a much publicised partnership between the Hong Kong Jockey Club and Fuller’s management company X1X, have asked if Now United, usually dressed as if for a PE class, are an all-girl soccer team who sometimes sing.

Despite the pressers and kumbaya moments, Now United has barely caused a ripple including its “citywide search for a new female member from Hong Kong”, not exactly being a bonfire of the vanities.

Nothing against the girls, but the bland songs, the rather awful videos, half baked marketing and promotions of the group in Hong Kong have been more Then than Now, and should be an embarrassment to at least two senior executives who one thought would know better.

Guess they were having, well, senior moments?
