THE ODE TO THE WRECK OF THE HESPERUS

ree

It’s not only about

standing in the spotlight

and always

taking the applause

It’s about knowing how to

turn things around

when the lights go out

And charting a new course

Don’t keep playing

the tiresome blame game

when fingers are

pointing your way

As history has taught

many of us

Even the big dog

always has his day

ree

Karma is a strange beast

Bridges should

never be burned

Friendship is a very

fragile thing

It cannot accept

serial lies

And deflections

at every turn

One can only turn

the other cheek

just so many

naked times

Forgiveness must

always be earned

for there to be

respect and rhymes

ree

No one is invincible

And think that

times don’t change

Someone always

pulls the rug

from behind

And power bases

get rearranged

ree

Like when always

playing the horses

no one always wins

You’re only as good

as your last home run

People get tired of

even one more spin

Time’s up for dictators

so quickly shuffle

the deck chairs

Man the lifeboats

And change course

There are icebergs

in the way

The good old days

are now long gone

They only belong

to yesterday
