Some have asked if the photos above are from “A Night At The Museum”, others have asked if they’re from some kitsch horror movie while the smarter of the species have asked if this display of equine oddities is in Shatin.


Nah, it’s the Hong Kong Jockey Club Racing Museum in Happy Valley and far better known to longtime Hong Kong Belongers as a good place to catch a cab.

Who goes to this place which we remember when attending its grand opening that was officiated by our non ami Monsieur Patrick Martell.


These days, it appears to be a roly poly white elephant despite someone from the HKJC who should know better telling me that it’s popular with tourists from the mainland to visit after lunch at the Club’s nearby Moon Koon restaurant.

One has to wonder how THIS white elephant is being marketed and the costs of keeping up pretences along with the skeleton of champion galloper Silver Lining and a stuffed version of the great River Verdon.

Strongly recommend is that especially every young sportsman watches this brilliant interview where the great Michael Parkinson bowls some flippers and wrong ‘uns at cricketing legend Shane Warne, who replies with a straight bat.


Someone I met when with the music industry and in London, Sri Lanka, Melbourne and Bali, other than being a magical leg spinner, like Muhammad Ali, Warnie was a showman and game changer, and someone sorely missed.
